Kept it pretty simple over the past few weeks. I haven’t been playing much due to a combination of working a lot, being busy in school, and having lots of stuff going on with my bands. Pretty steady income, though. I’ve played a few tournaments, but for the most part have kept it to cash tables.

I’m still kicking myself for getting drunk and blowing my bankroll, but it seems like I am recovering, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I’ve just been grinding at the micro-limits cash tables, and having a lot of success. Before long I should be really starting to hit my stride and getting back to where I was. More updates as I continue to progress.

I got blitzed and decided it would be a great idea to play $.50/1.00 NLHE. I bought into a couple tables for $100 each, busted, and then decided to rebuy. I should start another blog called “How to throw away weeks of hard work in a few short hours.”

Not all is lost. I’m confident in my play and as long as I can recommit to my bankroll guidelines, in a few weeks I should be back to where I once was. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.

And this is why I didn’t give up on tourneys when I wasn’t running well in them. The second place finish was a huge cash for a little over $300 that takes me to new limits with my bankroll. Now I’ve just got to make sure I don’t get cocky and continue to play by the rules.

Sorry again for incomplete records, but I haven’t documented individual games so I’m not sure of exactly how much I bought in and cashed out for. I have started to play at $.05/.10 tables and the transition is going well so far. Once again, I’ll try and get better at updates.

Rough streak for tournaments. My best cash was 49/1286 in a 6-max $2.00 + .20 MTT. That contributes to my theory about me doing better at the 6-max cash games.

Before you jump on me for breaking bankroll rules with these tournaments, read the next post about cash games for the last few days. I haven’t been updating as frequently so I haven’t been keeping as exact of records as before, which can be confusing. I am still adhering very strictly to my bankroll management guidelines, but because I am not updating as frequently it can look like I am jumping limits.

I’ve been having much more success at cash tables than I have with tournaments lately, but I’m still not willing to give up on tourneys. Ultimately, I enjoy playing them a lot more. I wonder if the difference in success has to do with the fact that when I play cash tables I play 6 max, but tourneys are generally full 9 man tables…

No really substantial comments here. If I did anything in these tournaments differently, it would have been my bubble play in the 90 man where I finished 13th. Pokerstars pays out top 12 in these tournaments, and I was close to the bottom of the pile. I only had about 5 big blinds left and shoved with K Q suited when I was in the cutoff seat. I got a call from a weak ace and my tournament was over. I am still wondering whether I needed to take my chances with a hand like that or if I should have tried to hold tight and outlast someone else.

I accidentally closed the table before copying the hand history, so I can’t post the exact hand that got me there. I had built my stack to about $10 and was in the big blind with KdQd. It folded around to the dealer and he raised to$.20. I called and the flop came 8d5d3d. I checked and he bet out for $1.00. Seeing as the pot was only at about $.40 I figured this meant he had a big pocket pair and was trying to protect against a diamond draw. In case he was holding onto something like A A with a diamond in his hand, I re-raised to $2.50 to make him pay to draw. He called and the turn was the 10 of spades. I bet $4 and he called. The river brought the 2 of clubs. At this point no more diamonds had come, and the board wasn’t paired to give him the possibility of a boat. I pushed him all in and he called with Q Q, giving me a huge pot.
